CWenergy approached the 120TR launderette conversion with an integrated design and energy strategy, transforming this 19th-century retail space into a model of sustainable urban living. The project included creating a rentable lower-ground flat and a commercial unit, both enhanced by a comprehensive energy optimisation plan.

To address the challenges of daylight and ventilation in the basement, we implemented a cutting-edge mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR) system. This system ensures fresh air circulates continuously while recovering up to 89% of heat, reducing energy waste and maintaining a comfortable indoor environment. The MVHR system also mitigates moisture, preserving the exposed concrete structure and enhancing the building's longevity.

Sustainability extended beyond the interior. The courtyard was retrofitted with a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS), reducing water discharge rates by 50% through a custom-built attenuation system that exceeds regulatory requirements. This feature highlights our commitment to combining environmental responsibility with functionality.

Futureproofing was integral to our strategy. The new extension’s foundations were designed to support a potential vertical expansion, ensuring long-term adaptability. By embedding sustainable practices into every stage of design and construction, we delivered not just a visually striking space but a resilient and efficient investment for our client.
