Through a lower ground floor transformation and a new rear extension we have brought light deep into the centre of the 19th century house, and created a direct and elegant connection to the newly landscaped garden beyond.
We used natural materials extensively – woods, marbles, stone – adding to the feeling of understated sophistication and a connection to the outside. A glass ceilinged wine cellar provides a transparent oculus in the floor of the new extension, adding to the feeling of transparency.
The five story home is at the heart of Kensington and Chelsea. Sensitive design and a knowledgeable approach to the planners was required to achieve a contemporary rear extension in the Kensington Conservation Area.
Other works to all the floors included the full redecoration of walls, ceilings and woodwork, the upgrade all electrical circuits and lighting, and new light filled bathrooms and kitchen.
