Residential Integrated Retirement Community
Type: Cagni Williams Energy
Awards:

The OLW development combines environmental sensitivity with social value, delivering 56 retirement homes surrounded by untouched ancient woodland and grassland. CW Energy’s energy strategy ensures this community operates entirely carbon-free while promoting biodiversity and sustainability.

The project features mass timber construction, which captures significant CO2, and a ground source heat pump network supplying all heating and cooling. Solar panels integrated into pitched roofs generate renewable energy, which is stored and used to meet communal energy demands, including electric vehicle charging points. The central community hub incorporates display kitchens and social spaces, fostering a sense of belonging and activity.

The landscaping includes permeable surfaces, drought-tolerant plants, and native species to enhance the ecological value of the site. This project showcases how sustainable design can create vibrant, environmentally friendly communities that respect and enhance their natural surroundings.
